Oakland Hills Retreat with Hot Tub and Ergo Desk

Private 1-bedroom 450 sq. ft. in-law unit with luxurious spa style bathroom, outdoor deck space and remote work desk. Very walkable, just steps from grocery store, pizza, and Thai restaurant. Adjacent to beautiful green open space including Bridgeview trail head access. Close to 580/13/24 freeways by car and short walk to bus routes through Oakland or SF. Perfect for visiting family, solo adventurers, remote workers, and business travelers that enjoy minimalistic living in small peaceful spaces.

The space
Private entrance with self check-in and no shared spaces between in law unit and main house.

Luxurious Japanese/spa style bathroom with full room walk-in shower, wood floor, and redwood whirlpool hot tub with garden views. Spa hours are 8AM-1AM. Please respect these hours as the motor is right outside our bedroom window and keeps us up at night.

Private deck, patio furniture, and outdoor garden space, fully dedicated and only accessible by tenant. Perfect for yoga and outdoor dining.

Small galley style kitchen with stainless steel gas range, oven, microwave, mini refrigerator, Keurig coffee maker and Soda Stream.

Comfy queen sized bed and bedroom is tucked away behind french doors from the living room area.

Light-filled living room with plenty of windows and blind coverings for privacy. Living room has small couch, arm chair, two seat dining set, and TV with Roku. Couch also folds out as a simple, flat futon bed.

Great for remote work! There is a sit/stand height adjustable desk with docking station, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and WiFi connection.

Please note: This is intended to be a quiet space. We work from home and have two young children, as do our neighbors directly adjacent to and behind the apartment. While we understand you may be on vacation and want to socialize, we ask that you do so quietly and respectfully so as to not disrupt the normal daily lives of those around you. We ask that you do not use the deck space to socialize after 10PM. We live on a cul-de-sac and outside sounds are amplified based on the placement of our house.

Guest access
You enter through the side gate private entrance. There’s no private parking but there is plenty of free street parking.

Owners live in main house, including 2 adults, 2 small children, and a sweet pit bull. There is one shared wall, and the outdoor space is separated by a trellis/gate. We are generally up around 7AM. We do our best to minimize any noise, but you may hear plumbing sounds, footsteps, the dog/kids and other normal household activities. If you are a late or light sleeper, our home may not be the best fit for you. The space is generally peaceful and we've provided a white noise machine if you need it!

There is central heat with one thermostat on the owner’s side of the house. You can contact us if it’s too hot/cold and we can adjust the thermostat accordingly. It is set at 68 degrees 6AM-12AM and 62 degrees 12AM-6AM. There is no air conditioner, but there are fans provided for the unit.

For stays under 30 days: No laundry access, but we're happy to launder the included apartment linens for you during your stay as needed.

For stays over 30 days: Shared laundry access (located in owners garage) can be arranged up to two days a week between 9AM-10PM. Guest laundry cannot be left overnight in laundry machines. Access requires downloading an app to open/close the garage as well as providing an email. Physical remote is not available.

Other things to note
- Landscaping bi-weekly (gardeners access the outdoor space two Thursdays a month)
- Packages are delivered behind guest gate entrance, so owners may access when needed to retrieve them.
- Hot tub does require chemicals weekly and cleaning monthly. Owner/guests will coordinate who will execute the maintenance as applicable and depending on length of stay. Instruction sheet and chemicals provided by owner if guest chooses to maintain the tub.
- Ventilation: The hot tub and shower create humidity, so we ask that you keep the shower door closed when using that area, and keep the studio well ventilated by running the shower fan while using it, opening windows when it's comfortable, and using the provided dehumidifier in the unit as needed.
