Hummingbird Beach Sanctuary is a private duplex in a calm, green neighbourhood curated lovingly with global treasures. I have been an airbnb host for 10 years and love making guests feel at home. Comfy beds, up/down desk and external monitor, skylights and balcony with ocean view. We are walking distance from Granville Island, 4th Avenue shopping and restaurants, museums, and famous Kitsilano Beach. Great for couples, remote workers, business travellers, adventurers, and furry friends (pets).
The space
This is a tall, narrow Japanese architect built house from 1981. It has hardwood stairs instead of hallways, so bring grippy socks! Here is a description of each floor to help orient you.
• At ground level, there is the main entrance, a bedroom with an ensuite bathroom and a garden patio.
• The second level has a cozy TV nook, a dining room with a wood fireplace and a full kitchen with a dishwasher and big oven.
• The third level is the living room with a balcony and skylight as well as a powder room with laundry (washer/dryer). There is a motorized standing desk with external monitor, keyboard and trackpad for your remote working needs.
• The upper floor is the master bedroom with ensuite bathroom (no door) and beautiful skylights. It is also worth mentioning the fantastic view of the English Bay from the top bedroom and upper living room balcony.
Things to note:
• Vancouver is a temperate rainforest, which is rich with biodiversity. This is a time to enjoy seagulls, crows, hummingbirds, spiders and other small critters. You may catch a glimpse of a raccoon or skunk during twilight hours. These creatures are our friends, so please treat them with respect.
• Summers are getting hotter. Note that most homes in Vancouver (including this one) are not equipped with air conditioning.
Please Note: If you have small children, the balcony and stairs will require a watchful eye for safety reasons.
Guest access
You will be provided a door code the day before your arrival. When you arrive, just punch in the magic numbers and you will have access to the house.
Other things to note
Bring yourself and your personal items/food - we'll take care of the rest. The house is equipped with coffee/tea, linens, towels, condiments, detergent, toilet paper - all the essentials. If you use something up, kindly let us know or replace it if you have time!
It is a good idea to have grippy socks or wear no socks in the house as the stairs can be slippery if you are not careful. We have the place professionally disinfected and cleaned by our friends Ronel and Elsje.
